STR 1440

Gather a team of 3 and prepare for a 24-hour rope session. The 2026 STR 1440 is Sterling's newest endurance rope event, where participants will compete to score the most points in 24 hours.

Starting the morning of the 19th, pushing through the night, and straight into the morning of the 20th, this event will test your team’s endurance by swapping between climbing, belaying, and resting. More efficient coordination and teamwork, as well as the desire to camp out at Sterling, will help boost your score and have your team win the grand prize.

General Format:

Teams of 3 will compete over the course of 24 hours to achieve the most points, most vertical feet climbed, and most first ascents.

Preliminary Rules:

1. All climbs must be logged on Kaya.
2. No more than 3 attempts or successful climbs or longer than 22 minutes on a route in a row before a team must switch to a different route. Whichever comes first.
3. Climbs may be repeated assuming they follow the guidelines of rule 2.
4. Points are assigned to each climb based on difficulty, following a general format of a starting value of 100 points for a 5.7, with each grade increasing by double the amount of the previous grade. An additional point reward of 30% of the climb's value is added if the route is led and not top roped. Starting at 100 points for a 5.7. I.e, 5.8 is 200, 5.9 is 400, so on and so forth. 

5. Points may be adjusted on difficulty as determined by the event coordinator. 
6. Autobelays are off during the duration of the competition.
7. For first ascents, the carabiner recovered at the top must match the color of the climb and presented to event staff following the ascent.
8. Following through on lead only routes is not allowed. Following through on top ropes is allowed but does not count as lead climbs.
