New River Gorge Sport Climbing Trip

We will pick specific climbing areas based on the goals of the group, but here's an example of what the trip could look like.  Transportation in the Sportrock van is included, though you may choose to drive separately if desired.

• Day 1, Wed Nov 11th:
  • 11am Meet at Sportrock Rio 
  • 12pm Hit the road, lunch en route
  • 5pm Arrive at our lodging, plus grocery run
  • Dinner at nearby restaurant
• Day 2, Thurs Nov 12th:
  • Enjoy breakfast at our lodgings before driving to the climbing site
  • Climb all day at one of the Summersville lake sport climbing areas
  • Eat lunch at the crag
  • Group cooks dinner at the house
• Day 3, Fri Nov 13th:
  • Enjoy breakfast at our lodgings before driving to the climbing site
  • Climb all day at one of the Summersville lake sport climbing areas
  • Eat lunch at the crag
  • Group cooks dinner at the house
• Day 4, Sat Nov 14th:
  • Enjoy breakfast at our lodgings before driving to the climbing site
  • Climb all day at one of the Summersville lake sport climbing areas
  • Eat lunch at the crag
  • Final group dinner at a local restaurant
• Day 5, Sun Nov 15th:
  • Enjoy breakfast at our lodgings before driving to the climbing site
  • Morning climbing session plus lunch at the crag
  • Leave for home at approximately 2pm
  • Arrive at Sportrock Rio around 7pm

What’s included:

• Transportation from Sportrock to the New River Gorge and back.

• 4 nights lodging in comfortable, large vacation house.

  • Linens, showers, wifi, and kitchen facilities included.

  • House has 8 beds and sleeps 14.  Some sharing of the larger beds & rooms may be required.

• Guided climbing and technical instruction with experienced guides.

• A small 4:1 maximum ratio ensures you get personalized attention.

• Ropes, hardware, and group climbing equipment.  Helmets are included if you don't already have one.

What’s not included:

• Meals: we will plan for restaurants for lunch and dinner on the trip down, plus grocery runs as needed.
• Personal climbing gear: You'll need your harness, shoes, and personal hardware, e.g., belay device and carabiners.

This trip is meant for climbers looking to build on their skills, bridge from indoor to outdoor climbing, and learn what climbing has to offer beyond the gym.  We will explore a wide range of routes, from 5.6 and up.  The areas we plan to visit, such as Whippoorwill and Orange Oswald, have something for everyone.  Indoor lead climbing experience is recommended, but not required.  No outdoor experience is required, but is welcome.   If you have any questions if this trip is right for you, please do not hesitate to reach out to Justin at justin@sportrock.com.
